Karen Fourie, Australian fine artist, educator, and author, entry titled: Celeste Dreaming, medium: acrylic and oil on gallery wrapped canvas. Artwork dimensions: 66cm high, 66cm width, 4cm depth.
My artwork Celeste Dreaming introduces Celeste, a woman whose life is bound to the cycles of the moon, much like the women in her lineage—her mother, grandmothers, aunties, and sisters. Their collective strength, now transformed into stars, continues to guide her. Together, they form a constellation greater than all the grains of sand on earth, an unbreakable bond of support and resilience.
Celeste carries the weight of a shared legacy, feeling the heavy presence of her ancestors with each painful cycle. There is a quiet, lingering fear within her that it may be too late for her, that her journey might be defined by struggle rather than healing. Yet, in her heart, she dreams of a future where her daughters are free from the pain and limitations that have marked her own life. She dreams of breaking the chains of endometriosis, giving them the freedom to live without fear, without pain.
This piece reflects the invisible burdens many women like Celeste carry—an embodiment of strength, a deep connection to generations of women before them, and the hope for a brighter future. Through art, I aim to give voice to the silent experiences of those living with endometriosis, amplifying their stories in a way that feels both personal and universal.
